2017: The year when fashion and politics come hand in hand together.
Fashion influences from all around the globe are spreading a whole new fashion attitude and are openly speaking out on their political stances. But no, not through their voices, but through their style choices. Seen above are a handful of the worlds most influential bloggers, such as Chriselle Lim (from the Chriselle Factor), Aimee Song (from Song of Style) and Bryanboy.
Strutting the streets of NYC in Prabal Gurung, their shirts read political statements and caught the attention of much more than just street style photographers.
The whole politics messages within fashion trend arose last year when Maria Grazia Chiuri was applauded for her WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS shirt in the Dior S/S 2017 show. Dior used this quote from the writer Chimanda Ngozi Adichie, who released her "We should all be feminists" book in 2014. From here, designers used this and made it their own.
Along with this shirt, Dior also showcased a "DIO(R)EVOLUTION" and "WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED". Though presented by Dior, it wasn't long before high street stores, such as ASOS, snatched up the concept and used it as their own. Chiara Ferragni, the world's most influential blogger, has been seen posting herself in these statement shirts and was one of the first public figures who went public showcasing these shirts. At Prabal Gurung’s most recent New York show, Bella Hadid walked down the runway with a "THE FUTURE IS FEMALE" print shirt.
Slowly but surely, the fashion industry is opening up its doors to a vocal political platform. And who said Fashion and Politics couldn't co-exist as one?
ENJOY!
