Slim Aarons was an American photographer, noted for photographing socialites, jet-setters and celebrities in the late 1940's onwards. The question to ask is, how does one go from serving as a combat photographer in World War II, to photographing celebrities in California. During his career, Aarons was known for the positive portrayals he gave to those he photographed and was continually invited to high-society gatherings for this reason. His work covered American and European noble society, as well as young women at play on yachts, at exclusive beach resorts or in their expensive homes.
"When you photograph a lot of WOMEN, you get to know things." Slim Aarons.
Slim Aarons book "Women" explores the focus of his career and their influence on the arts, fashion and Hollywood during this time. The book presents the women who Aarons earned the trust of, including Jackie Kennedy, Princess Grace of Monaco, Imelda Marcos and Marilyn Monroe.
The book is comprised of more than 200 images, the majority of which have not appeared in his previous books, along with detailed captions written by one of Aaron's closest colleagues. Page after page reveals an unreal world which, from the perspective of contemporary global celebrity, seems at the same time impossibly distant and oddly familiar: socialites in their mansions, film stars by their pools and celebrities at their private beach resorts.
