When you get an email on a Friday morning asking if you're interested in an internship for Jenny Packham, let alone in Paris, you just can't say no!
Just over a week later, I was on a flight to Paris (+ my first time ever travelling and going away alone) to start an internship with the brand. I arrived a day early, got settled in and then went to buy some food; priorities, and then slept.
As it is PFW, press, buyers and clients come to the showroom appointment-only and get to see the collection first hand. Our models, Dana and Ella, are available to try on any pieces of the collection for clients to see in full motion. The internship is the basics of every other internship; being able to accommodate for the team and the clients. We do the food run day-to-day (except on Sunday as everything is shut) to make sure theres always enough food in our kitchen, because besides what you've heard, models do actually eat. We make sure the showroom is always in top shape, and making sure the visual merchandising reaches the standard. We help the models get in and out of the collection. All the basics, essentially.
I met Jenny Packham herself, and her husband Matthew, who is the CEO of the brand. There is normally a perceived idea that designers are rude and ruthless, well Packham isn't, and nor is she your Miranda Priestly of designers. She has a good and friendly relationship with her team members and the models, who she uses time-and-time again for her collections. The team is small, which means there is more one-to-one going on and you can establish a good working relationship with everyone.
